CHILD FIND ANNOUNCMENT

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES:

The Manville Department of Special Services encompasses a number of programs and services for the students in our district.   The child study team, special education, speech and language services, physical and occupational therapy, nursing services, residency concerns and the academically gifted program are all under the supervision of the Department of Special Services.

Manville offers a full continuum of placement options to meet the needs of students with disabilities for special education and related services.   Educational program options include regular class settings with supplementary aids and services, such as educational adaptations and modifications, supplementary instruction, assistive technology, instructional assistants and related services.

Our resource programs include replacement and support options as deemed appropriate in the student’s IEP.   Self-contained special education classes are also considered within the district such as the Preschool Disabled, Multiply Disabled, Specific Learning Disabled and Behaviorally Disabled Programs.   Although the vast majority of our students attend school within the district, when necessary, out of district special education programs include a range of least restrictive settings as outlined in NJAC 6A:14-4.3 are considered.

Manville’s academically gifted program coordinates independent study, differentiated instruction, interest centers, enrichment activities, tiered assignments, flexible skills grouping, mentoring, contracts, service learning, after school clubs, high school and middle school honors program and advanced placement courses.   Student progress is maintained to monitor individual growth and attainment of the district’s goals.

Speech and language specialists, occupational and physical therapists are available to identified students in each school.   There is also a school nurse in every building to meet the health needs of all the children.

If you have any questions about any of these programs, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Audrey Press, M.A.
Director
