Weston School is fortunate to have many volunteers that assist in various ways. We have parents who spend time in the classrooms, particularly at the kindergarten level assisting the teachers and students. This allows teachers to spend more time with small groups and individuals in the classroom. We have other parents who come in during the library period and help the teacher with the checking in and out of books. If this year's budget passes, we will have a half time librarian next year and that person will surely enjoy the continued help of parents in the library. Parents also volunteer on our special days such as math/science day, multi-cultural day and field day among the many we hold during the year. Sometimes those parents actually conduct the lessons. At other times they escort students from room to room. On the school-wide event days we are also fortunate to have students from Manville High School join us to offer their help. The extra pairs of hands and the attention of older students bring smiles to the faces of our students.
During the year we also have a number of college students visit and assist at Weston School. Some of them are doing this as part of their service learning requirement. Others are doing it as part of their coursework to become elementary school teachers. Some of them are graduates of Manville High School. They represent many of the colleges in New Jersey including Rutgers, FDU, RVCC, Kean and the College of St. Elizabeth.
If you feel you have an hour here or there for public service, give the school a call. There is always something that we can use you to assist with.
