    Dear Manville School Community,

As we are preparing for the start of the 2021-2022 school year, we wanted to share with our school community an update on our plans to reopen our schools safely.

In June, Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Education released The Road Forward: Health and Safety Guidance for the 2021-2022  School Year. Based on the guidance developed, the Manville School District has developed The Road Forward: The Manville School District Reopening Plan.  In the document, the district addresses the various considerations related to General Health and Safety Guidelines, Cleaning, Disinfection, and Airflow, Screening, Exclusion, and Response to Symptomatic Students and Staff, Contact Tracing, and Testing.

    Some essential items include:

    • The Manville School District must provide full-day, full-time, in-person instruction for all students for the 2021-2022 school year and not offer full virtual options.
    • Staff members will be asked to provide proof of vaccination by August 31, 2021. Proof of vaccination will be required for staff members to be considered fully vaccinated. Any staff member who fails to provide proof of vaccination will be regarded as not fully vaccinated and will be subject to quarantine in the event of exposure to an individual with COVID-19 or upon return from travel.
    • Students eligible for vaccination will be required to provide proof of vaccination which will be stored in the student’s online medical records through the Genesis portal.  Any student who fails to provide proof of vaccination will be considered not fully vaccinated and will be subject to quarantine in the event of exposure to an individual with COVID-19 or upon return from travel.
    • The Manville School District will adhere to Executive Order # 251, which institutes mandatory masking for students, staff, and visitors for the start of the 2021-2022 school year while indoors.
    • The Manville School District will maintain three feet of distance, when possible.
    • Parents/caregivers will be strongly encouraged to monitor their children for signs of illness every day and should continue to check for symptoms before leaving for school. Students who are sick should not attend school. Parents will not be required to complete daily screening forms.
    • The Manville School District will continue to provide grab-and-go meals for all students.
    • The Manville School District will educate stakeholders on appropriate hygiene practices, including handwashing and coughing etiquette.

In the coming weeks, you will be receiving communications from your principal updating you with the specific items related to your building.  We will be hosting a community discussion with Dr. Maroun on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the Manville High School Media Center to answer any questions that community members may have about the safe reopening of schools.  Masks will be required to attend.

    Thank you!
