Well, hello there! My name is Erika Barney, and I have been teaching students at Manville School District for over four years. I began my journey at the high school, where I had the pleasure of working with 9th, 11th, and 12th grade English students, as well as students in journalism, speech, and publications courses for two years. During my time at the high school, I enjoyed coaching students in the Forensics (speech and debate) Club and organizing the International Club.
I currently reside at Alexander Batcho Intermediate School (ABIS), where I love analyzing literature with 7th and 8th graders through deep discussions in the Socratic Seminar, fishbowl, and talk show format. I am proud of our American Indian Trickster Tale anthology that the students published last year, and I look forward to our annual Poetry Slam and Career Day Project. After school, you can find me in my classroom hosting "Homework Club" and in the tech lab with Mrs. Germano, advising the next generation of Anderson Coopers on the Newspaper Club.
When I'm not in Manville, I'm at home with my husband Travis, new son Stetson, kitty Zimmy, and a pond of over 100 koi and goldfish in Ewing, NJ. On the weekends we enjoy playing at the park, going on walks through Campus Town at The College of New Jersey, enjoying a good meal at the Firkin Tavern, combing the local thrift stores for a good find, and watching a new sci-fi or thriller on the telly. During the summer, I enjoy eating cheese curds and kringle when I go home to visit family members in Wisconsin and Illinois.
