AP Biology Syllabus
AP Biology is the equivalent of a two-semester introductory college laboratory-based course in the biological sciences. The goal of this course is to provide you with two things: (1) a solid understanding and appreciation for the core concepts unifying the diverse disciplines of biology and (2) the experience of investigating these concepts as it is done in real scientific laboratories. Per College Board policy, at least 25% of instructional time will be spent on laboratory experiences. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge, experience, and confidence to continue your study of biology and other sciences at the university level, and I hope that you will be prepared to demonstrate your worthiness of college credit on the AP Exam in May. The major topics we will be focused on this semester are evolution, biochemistry, the structure and function of cells and membranes, metabolism and cellular energetics, cell division, genetics, homeostasis and cell communication, and ecology.
