Student Award Criteria

Manville High School celebrates individual achievement that values academic success and elevates awareness of student contributions to the school community. Students who are nominated should prove they value their education by exhibiting academic responsibility and curiosity. They are also expected to have demonstrated excellent behavior in and out of the classroom, which includes being collaborative, curious, and respectful.
Criteria for nominating a student are:
- Takes academic risks
- Outstanding grades
- Demonstrates curiosity
- Sustained academic growth
- Marked improvement in grades
- Collaboration and leadership
- Outstanding attitude/disposition
- Exemplary character and work ethic
- Demonstrated academic achievement
The Student of the Month program is designed so that any student in eleventh or twelfth grade can receive the award. This award is intended to acknowledge the effective habits that accompany academic achievement. It is noted that the fruits of these habits are empirical and/or evident to MHS faculty and the overall community.
Provisions:
- Administration may reject a nominee because of disciplinary issues, attendance concerns, etc. In this case, the committee will consider another candidate.
- Students who are selected as SOTM will not be able to earn the award again.
- Nominations carry over from month to month and re-nominations are welcome.
- Only those who win the award will be recognized; other nominees will not be disclosed.
