• Homework assignments will be completed on-line.

For English Language Arts, students will be required to complete 20 minutes a day of reading on RAZ Kids.

For Math, students will be required to complete practice on Front Row for 15 minutes a day

    ELA Weekly Total:              100 minutes

    Math Weekly Total:            75 minutes

Homework counts for 10% of the overall grade.

Periodically, class work that was not completed in school will be sent home to be completed, but will count towards a class work grade, not a homework grade.

We will be practicing in class how to access RAZ Kids and Front Row using my web page on the Manville website. Each student should have the ability to access their homework websites independently using their username and passwords.

Students can access the internet at the Manville Public Library for free. Students will have the opportunity to stay after school periodically with me to use the computer and/or to catch up on missing work.

If your child does not have access to online resources, please contact me immediately so that we can work together to get your child online.

    Why Homework?

Homework is developed and given to students:

    1. to provide reinforcement of the day's lesson (practice)
    2. provide an opportunity for them to develop responsibility
    3. to practice previously taught concepts
    4. for enrichment
    5. to provide an assessment piece for the teacher

Students with special needs especially benefit from daily practice of new skills learned in class. Homework given to students with special needs incorporates their IEP goals and targets each individual student's learning style. Students should complete their work independently with minimal supports.

Parents can help their child by:

    • reading directions and/or rewording them
    • checking to see if all directions have been followed
    • schedule a specific homework time each day to ensure that homework is being completed
    • sit at the same table when homework is being completed (just being there tells your child you're interested in what they're doing!)
    • not providing correct answers. Encourage your child to reread or go over a problem in order to self- correct.
    • never completing an assignment for your child. If the student is unclear of how to complete the assignment, write a note in the homework agenda and the assignment will be reviewed with your child the next day
