Skills in the MakersLab
When one first hears about STEM, an almost infinite range of possibilities lights up the imagination. So what will we be learning here in the ABIS MakersLab?
The following documents will cover two of the most important areas that students will work to master, Building Block Skills and the Design Process.
Building Block Skills are a collection of "soft skills" that provide a foundation for any potential career. This collection of skills has been shown to corralate with successful individuals, so we want our students to develop these into habits and ways of thinking.
The Design Process, is a series of steps that is common practice within any career that involves production, creation, or design. This cyclical process encourages students to see a mistake or failure as not the end, but rather as an important step in being successful.
In addition to the Building Block Skills and Design Process, different grades will focus on other content specific skills.
- 5th graders will work on programming and robots
- 6th graders will focus on video and audio recording
- 7th graders will undertake 3D drafting and printing
- 8th graders will combine content skills from all other grades
