    Grade Levels: 9-12

    Number of Periods: One period per day for one year

    Course Description: The goal of Algebra 1 is for each student to master the content standards provided by the New Jersey Department of Education. In this course, students will be focusing on eight mathematical practices as outlined by the Common Core State Standards. These practices are:  

    • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
    • Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
    • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
    • Model with mathematics.
    • Use appropriate tools strategically.
    • Attend to precision.
    • Look for and make use of structure.
    • Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

    Course Units:

    Unit 1 Relationships between Quantities and Reasoning with Equations

    Unit 2 Linear Relationships

    Unit 3 Expressions and Equations

    Unit 4 Functions and Modeling

    Unit 5 Descriptive Statistics


    Grading Policy: The grading policy is as follows.  Students will receive a numerical grade on their report cards.  

    Homework     10%
    Assessments 60% (Tests/Quizzes/Performance Assessments/Projects)
    Class Work    30%
