Progress reports and report cards are available via the Parent Portal; hard copies of report cards will be available by completing the form distributed in the summer packet. Additional information on this program can be found in the Parent Portal on the Manville School District website. If you have not yet visited the Parent Portal, please go on line and follow the directions for registration. Hard copies of report cards are available by request only.

    Summer Reading and Math

Summer Reading: The summer reading assignment is due on the first day of school. Students in Grades K–3 should complete the required reading and bring their banner pieces in to school on the first day. The banners illustrating the students' reading and thinking will be hung throughout the school. In Grades 4–12, students are required to read at least two books and complete the accompanying assignment. Assignments vary by school and will be counted as a grade for the first marking period. All students have received at least one book; the second book is a book of student's choice. Please see the grade level assignments on the district website for more specific information. Assistance will be provided for students who are struggling with their summer reading assignments. Help will be available at Weston School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the period of July 7 through July 30 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Summer Math: The summer math assignment is due on the first day of school; it will be graded and counted as a grade in the first marking period. The purpose of this assignment is for students to review math concepts and be ready to start the school year with minimum review of prior learning. As we move forward implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics, mastering of key concepts are required at each grade level and review of content is limited. Assistance will be provided for students who are struggling with their project. Help will be available at Weston School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the period of July 7 through July 30 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

    Formative Assessments:

Formative assessment is an active and intentional learning process that partners the teacher and the students to continuously and systematically gather evidence of learning with the express goal of improving student achievement. The primary purpose of formative assessment is to improve learning, not merely to audit it.
