Mr. James Horton

Welcome to the new school year.  I hope everyone had a great summer and looking forward to an exciting year at Manville High School.  I am excited about the new school year and cannot wait to work with everyone.  Below is some information that will assist parents and students in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Consumer Mathematics in the resource room.   I am located in Room 35.  Students assigned to the math resource class will need to bring a pocket folder, composition notebook, and a simple calculator (recommended).  If possible, the calculator should be simple and able to solve fractions.  This will allow students ample time to practice using their calculators to solve math problems before taking standardized tests in April.  Students will use the composition notebook in class for journal writing and to practice responding to verbal math problems.  The folder and composition notebook will stay in the classroom during the year.  Warm-up activities will be used daily to reinforce concepts learned in the previous class, prepare students for the next subject, and as a refresher for skills learned earlier.  Some of the warm-up activities will be done without using calculators.  We will use differentiated learning; student will work in small groups and individually at a pace that is good for each student

I will be using Remind to communicate to students and parents of important dates like quizzes and tests.   Classwork and homework can be found on Canvas that is located on the Manville High School website.  I will try to post grades within 3 days to Genesis so that parents and students can have access to their grades.  I will be available to assist students from 7:00 a.m. to 7:25 a.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day for students who are having difficulty or would like additional assistance. Homework will be used to complete work that was not finished in class. Students are required to complete their work on time.

Good luck and best wishes for School Year 2019-2020.
