Ms. Amanda Rasmussen
Hello! My name is Amanda Rasmussen and I am looking forward to another great year at Manville High School!
I graduated from Kean University in 2008 with a BA in Special Education, and I am currently pursuing my M.Ed with a concentration in Autism Spectrum Disorders at Georgian Court University. Over the last 14 years, I have worked with children and adolescents as a teacher, childcare manager, and crisis interventionist. 2020-2021 will be my third year as a Special Education Teacher at Manville High School.
This year, in class, our academic courses include English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Life Skills, and Personal Finance. In addition, a functional curriculum of social skills, life skills, vocational skills, and growth mindset will be incorporated into our daily activities. This year's electives include Art, Robotics, and Physical Education!
During the second-half of the year, I will be teaching two sections of a course called "Unified Peer Leadership". This course is designed encourage socialization and job skill development in my students through consistent interactions with same aged peers. Unified Peer Leadership is ideal for students who have expressed interest in future careers in education, therapeutic services, or other direct care professions. I look forward to further development of the Unifed Peer Leadership program at Manville High School!
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy art, music, cooking, and NJ Devils hockey! I love having the opportunity to share my personal passions with my students in the classroom and I encourage them to do the same!
