Sharon Lukac is a committed Board of Education member whose passion for service guides her work in supporting Manville students. Sharon joined the Board to give back to her community and advocate for what’s best for our students. She is especially proud of the district’s recent upgrades—from classroom improvements to enhanced athletic facilities—and the full renovation of the auditorium, which now serves as a modern, community-centered space.

Sharon’s favorite moment each year is graduation night, when she sees students reach an important milestone and feels the impact of the Board’s efforts firsthand.

Beyond her role on the Board, Sharon stays active in the community. She and her husband Joe of 32 years have three children, all Manville graduates, and a Bernese Mountain dog named Paris. She serves as Secretary of the Manville Senior Citizens Organization, is a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and helps serve Friday night dinners at the Manville VFW.

Her advice to students: Believe in yourself, aim high, and never forget where you came from.

Q: What inspired you to serve on Manville’s Board of Education?
Sharon: I always have had a yearning to serve my community, and to be a part of the advocacy for our students in Manville and their best interests.

Q: What is one goal you hope to accomplish during your term?
Sharon: As a part of a team, I’m most proud of all the upgrades, not only to classrooms, but to athletic facilities to ensure our students have the best opportunities that they are entitled to. The largest accomplishment for our team to date has been the auditorium renovations, bringing that facility into the modern decade, without costing taxpayers unneeded burdens. This has become a great space for not only our students, but for the overall community as well.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being involved in education?
Sharon: My favorite moment every year is graduation night. This event shows all our hard work as  board members seeing our students accomplish this major level of importance in their lives.

Q: Can you share a fun fact or hobby people might not know about you?
Sharon: I have been married to my husband Joe for 32 years, and we have 3 children aged 30, 27, and 24 who have all went through the Manville School District, and our Bernese Mountain dog, Paris. One of the things I love to do in my life is to help people. I’m currently the Secretary for the Manville Senior Citizens Organization, and an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, and on Friday nights my husband and I wait on tables and serve customers at the Manville VFW Friday night dinners.

Q: What advice would you give to the students in our district?
Sharon: Never stop believing in yourself or what you can achieve in life. And the greatest advice I received and carry on is from Ned Panfile, that being a Board Member is simply all about the kids, and to never forget where you came from.
